ACA Hosted Rides
Hosted rides are group rides that are regulated by pace and distance and hosted by a trained ACA hosted ride leader. All rides listed ride ratings for pace and terrain. Hosted rides, with ride rating of E through C, do not drop riders as long as the minimum posted pace is maintained.
1 - flatest rating, 4 - hillyest rating
- Ride will happen as planned
- Ride leader might cancel if weather is bad
- Ride leader has cancelled
Inspired by the Tour das Hugel, this ride series covers West Austin's abundant supply of steep hills. We generally average only 14-16mph due to the steep terrain, but these are solidly B-effort rides. We regroup at the top of the climbs. Route #2 features Mt. Bonnell, Mesa, Smokey Valley/Ladera Norte, Bluffstone/Bluegrass, Rain Creek, City Park, Big View, Bullick Hollow, Toro Canyon, and Harbor View.
These rides are meant for exploring so bring your questions and leave your heart rate monitor at home. We roll faster but expect about 12mph ave pace since we are in town. Come by at 8:00 for coffee.
We'll start at the Peddler and then toddle over to Boggy Creek farm stand first. After we've gotten what we'd like there, we'll head down to the SFC's Downtown Farmers' Market. Feel free to ask me about ingredients and how to prepare them or just shoot the poop about food in general. After the Downtown market, we'll go to Juan Pelota's and enjoy fellowship with Eileen and Stephanie's MJ ride. The hosted part of the ride will officially end at the coffee shop as I like to chat for a while, but maps will be offered to anyone who wishes to head back to the Peddler before I'm done babbling. I usually head back toward the Peddler by noon.
City Park - Jollyville Loop. Approx. 40 miles. Ride start: NW District Park (for details see below). Our very best urban ride. A few challenging climbs but we will always regroup at the top of each. The views over the Hill Country and the Downtown from City Park Road make them worthwhile. Some roads with moderate traffic. Join us afterwards for a coffee or a sandwich at the San Francisco Café.

Route #3 features River Hills, Lost Creek (eastbound), Petticoat, the High Road, Courtyard, Jester, Far West, Balcones, and Scenic.
Cotton Capers (modified). Approx. 55 miles. Ride start: Profit Center Drive (for details see below). A popular ACA route that is quite close in and yet uses rural farm roads out to Elgin. Couple of rollers (Walnuts), otherwise quite flat. Moderate to fast pace. And we now promise no more off-road bridge crossings. Take 290 east, cross 183, take first left (Cross Park Drive), turn right @ 1st light onto Exchange Drive. After ½ mile, turn left onto cul-de-sac (Profit Center Drive but no sign).
Mount Bonnell – Jollyville Loop. Approx. 38 miles. Ride start: NW District Park (for details see below). An urban ride with some great views of the Lake and a couple of short, sharp climbs (+ one that will get your attention). Some roads with moderate traffic. Join us afterwards for a coffee or a sandwich at the San Francisco Café.
